Hello there folks!

Please note that we will have two services on Easter Sunday, at 9 and 11 am.

Our childrens ministry will be in full swing for both services, for kids nursery to 6th grade.  7th-12 grade students are encouraged to attend the service with their families.

If you have any questions, please contact any staff member, or email hello@ncpcfamily.org

Hope you have a wonderful Easter season as we remember the price Jesus paid to offer redemption to the world and the ease with which we may obtain it.

Grace!

Book: The Power of Half

Published on March 21, 2010 by Mike Forrest

Been reading a book for the last few weeks called the power of half. It’s the story of a family from Atlanta that decided to sell their 1.6 million dollar home, buy one that was half the price, and give the rest to the Hunger Project (which used the money to empower two major villages in Ghana, giving 40,000 people access to fresh-water, medicine, micro-loans, education and more – all of which was self-sustaining by the local people). Half of one house changed 40,000 lives.

The remarkable part of this book is not that the parents let their 14 year old daughter convince them to do this, but that they entered into this two year process of meeting together and talking about what their family response to hunger and poverty should be. Sure, to sell their house is an astounding, counter-cultural act of sacrifice in the name of philanthropy. But how they did this – not just what they did – is why every American family should read this book.

Go to a bookstore, find The Power of Half, grab a latte and read the first chapter. Also, bring enough money to purchase the book once you’re hooked.

Special thanks to NPR for featuring the father/daughter (Kevin and Hannah Salwen).

St. Patrick's Breastplate

This is a prayer attributed to St. Patrick.  It was probably not the exact prayer he said, but can be dated to within 100 years of when he lived, so it's probably similar.  Details, details...

But check it out.  It's cool:

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ below me, Christ above me, Christ to the right of me, Christ to the left of me, Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit, Christ where I stand, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye which sees me, Christ in every ear which hears me.

For a pretty cool essay on the man who was St. Patrick, check out this blog, linked at theresugrence.com, pointed out to me by our pastor Doug Swagerty.

Pity Party? Pathetic

Published on March 02, 2010 by Laura Rice

I tried to throw myself a pity party today. Scratch that - not tried, succeeded. I had a full-on, tears and sobbing, poor poor pitiful me, "this is my sixth month of unemployment and nobody wants me" party this morning.

"I'm not good at being useless and unnecessary!" I cried. :*-(

My husband tried valiantly to console me, but I would have none of it. Things are tough and by gosh, I'm going to be miserable about it.

I prayed into my tears for God to provide me my direction and next steps. For me to have more faith and no doubt in His timing and infinite (literally!) wisdom. For me to know that He created me ON PURPOSE, FOR A PURPOSE. ...as I was still whining and feeling sorry for myself. Not quite the repentant child.

God moves despite my attitude. As of this afternoon, I have three new interviews scheduled in the next four workdays. And one soon-to-be-scheduled phone interview. Not to mention the two phone interviews I had yesterday which have now been transformed into two new in-person interviews.

That adds up to 7-8 interviews with 6 different companies in the course of one week. Of course I'm not sure what might happen, or what my future holds. But I know Someone does. Go Jesus! Get some!
